If no date appears, DOC may still be waiting for official sentencing-court paperwork. Missing data does not prove that the sentence is indefinite or that release is near.
Louisiana DOC Projected Release Dates
The state uses the exact term “projected release date.” Its calculation can reflect the sentencing judgment, offense date, presentence credit, concurrent or consecutive sentences, classification, earned credits, forfeiture, detainers, later cases, and judicial changes. Louisiana law changed for offenses committed on or after August 1, 2024. R.S. 15:571.4 addresses forfeiture, and R.S. 15:571.5 can place a person released by diminution under the statute's form of parole for the remaining period. “Released from prison” and “sentence fully discharged” remain different facts.
Louisiana DOC Release and Community Supervision
Louisiana LAVNS is relevant after state-prison release because DOC says it includes probation and parole supervision. Record the reporting agency and assigned office. Ask whether the person remains in DPS&C legal custody, whether a displayed date is projected or actual, whether the Master Prison Record has been calculated, and whether community supervision is active. Request the Master Prison Record or appropriate release documentation through the current agency process when a durable state record is required.
Louisiana DOC Release Versus ICE Transfer
Evangeline Parish contains two immigration facilities, Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center and South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile. They are federal immigration sites, not DPS&C institutions or parish-jail programs. An ICE detainer may request advance notice and up to 48 additional hours for transfer after the person otherwise would be released from criminal custody.

EPSO announced in 2024 that construction had begun at the Ward 1 police-jury yard. That announcement does not prove completion, a new release entrance, or any change in Louisiana DOC legal custody. It concerns the parish jail system, not state institutions statewide.
For a DPS&C prisoner physically housed in Evangeline Parish, call ahead for current placement but use DOC for the sentence and projected date. The local construction detail is a practical location caution only. It cannot be used to infer that a state prisoner transferred, was released, or changed legal custodian.
Build a Louisiana DOC Release Record
A complete state release verification combines the official status, exact date label, facility or parish placement, and supervision assignment. LAVNS or the district office can identify a current supervision relationship after prison departure.
Do not merge an EPSO timestamp with the state projected date or apply Louisiana's newer good-time framework retroactively. If another hold is plausible, check its authority. A state-prison release record is strongest when each source is allowed to answer its own question.
For a past state release, preserve the DPS&C number and ask DOC for the calculation or discharge material by its current records process. If the person was housed in a parish jail, identify that physical location but keep DPS&C named as the legal custodian. A local record may document transport or physical departure while the state file documents whether imprisonment ended, supervision began, or another state placement followed.
For a disputed court-to-DOC date, obtain the sentencing minutes and judgment from the court, then compare them with the Master Prison Record. Missing sentencing paperwork can delay a public calculation. A later correction does not mean the earlier date was an actual release. State the date that each official source reported and the date it was checked.
Louisiana public-record rules can affect agency records, but specific exemptions and the facts of the request still matter. Ask for the narrow release or computation document instead of protected medical, victim, juvenile, investigative, or facility-security material. If part is withheld, ask the custodian to identify the legal basis.
